The Restaurant

Sir Anthony Van Dijck

Far from being a mere coincidence, the restaurant is a hidden gem, nestled in the heart of the Vlaeykensgang — a quiet, historic alleyway just steps from the cathedral.

The journey began in 1973 when Roger Souvereyns dedicated his refreshing culinary creativity to the famous Antwerp Baroque painter. In 1975, chef and later owner Marc Paesbrugghe breathed new life into the establishment, transforming it into a true gastronomic institution.

Since 2017, Jöran De Backer and Natalie Wuestenbergs have carried on this culinary tradition with classic, seasonal cuisine that showcases local produce. Although they were initially hesitant about the immense responsibility of taking over such a prestigious establishment, the passing of the torch from Marc Paesbrugghe and the restaurant's mystical atmosphere ultimately won them over.

From day one, they have focused on what truly matters to them: purity, refined simplicity, and respect for ingredients. Jöran draws his inspiration not from far-off travels, but from his walks in the vegetable garden and his conversations with local purveyors. His cuisine is inventive, yet it always remains authentic.

As a complementary duo, Jöran in the kitchen and Natalie in the dining room cultivate a warm and serene hospitality. They cherish their guests and pay particular attention to their team, convinced that the well-being of the staff enhances the overall dining experience.
